                                                             Misun Won

"I have used the circle to develop a variety of complex, handmade contemporary jewellery forms in silver, based on the idea of Korean patchwork. Using a ‘patchwork’ of circles, I make rhythmical structures and patterns from one sheet of silver, creating complex forms on their own or in combination with other materials such as colour thread and silk cord, creating beautiful, wearable jewellery"

This designer Misun Won is inspired by circles on an idea of her Korean culture and uses oxidation on her silver jewellery as to give diversity. and I see it relates with my pieces that are oxidised cause some of them are plain silver also including pearls.

                                                              Karl Fritsch

I found a jeweller who uses oxidising in his jewellery a lot to make certain elements in his pieces pop out uses real objects like nails, pearls, stones and gemstones. I thought that Karl Fritsch is one of the people i relate to in terms of the intentions when making our jewellery.

                                          Answering my Btech proposal

I thought in going on about this project I am going to play with getting the interesting colours on metal without using enamel and resin the usual way of getting colour on jewellery. the realistic look on the flower petals was going to be achieved by forging and folding.the different oxidised colour is going to differentiate the type of flowers as I researched the flowers I was interested in.  Here is the link to my personal collection as to how I will be going on with my jewellery  https://za.pinterest.com/fezekagcabashe/my-collection-pearl-destruction/
                                           Oxidising Silver

my inspiration for my personal project was based on oxidizing silver and play of colour on metal. I enjoyed working with seeing different colour change on metal and I felt working with flowers that it would bring that realistic feel to them instead of high shine polished silver.I believe that If I were to further this specific technique and with other mixed materials there's a lot I could achieve going forward.

Platinum Project-Bead Molecular

The Platinum project required us to play with metal and explore different methods on metal , Inspired by the Zulu culture and the beading worn on ceremonies and rituals. which is where i got my referencing from the  beads and the trianglur patterns made with different colours .i tried to translate that on metal using form folding and punching technique.

Clay Elements

these were the clay elements I chose the triangle shape and played around with the shapes using flat ones and 3D forms to create pattern and rearranging

The fabric that we chose had lots of different pattern on it as shown with these two pictures below. My personal experience going to the fabric shop,I Found it to be interesting with all the beautiful coloured fabrics and pattern on them, seeming I haven't been in a fabric shop for sometime.

These sketches  on the market walk .I aw a lot of different buildings and elements along the way that had interesting patterns and shapes . I did rough sketches to at least form, patern or shape on paper as its not really ideal walking and sketching in such a busy place.

Perceptions of Jewellery

My Perception of Jewellery is that it has to be worn and attached to the body, but not necessarily that it has to be of limited materials like people often associate it mostly of gold, silver an diamonds.as it shows social status of wealth. i would wear this bangle as i find the colours interesting and if you were toput it on a table youd think its stappled prolypropylene. and its expensive because it ranges from 50 to 250 Pounds which in Rands would be costly.this jewellery is made by

My Final Piece

My final piece as we were inspired by the circus has a lot of detail and busy just like in the circus to give off the same feeling. I was interested by the acrobatics and that's where my inspiration came from. The design changed originally from what I had drawn but as you manufacture there's a lot of change that occurs. The project in its self did challenge me as to be careful of how I work and not be careless but the last few days before submission i was not as stressed as I saw the piece coming together as to stressing on how I was gonna assemble it .I'm  glad it eventually came to pass as a jeweller I've inquired certain skills.

The Design Process

Designing took me a whole week trying to figure out my final design. After I researched  on the internet about cannatile and filagree pieces I came across an interesting pieces of pearl settings and wire work.that is where i finally got inspired and gave me ideas to inspire my design.

Well for my reference what I liked and found interesting were the acrobatics, but what I liked was not only just how they can bend their bodies etc. It was the line formation and the negatives that formed many elements and patterns. So I played around tracing the outlines and thats where my design process developed from.

Greebles:My greeble inspired story

The Queen of Zebudan

Nehia, born along the coastal land area. Raised in a palace by humble parents, the Queen and King of Zebudan,as princess but she had the power within her, that many men wished to have. Growing up she always overthrew and overshadowed boys and men. Which seemed to amaze A lot of people, so word spread in her town. Not long after that she got recruited to be in the army as one of the warriors with the men of Zebudan.

The princess as beautiful as she was a warrior without rival, and a successor over all the wars that the men appointed her as leader. One day sad news came to her as she was told her parents were murdered by the great powerful wizard many feared. So she grieves for her parents and is appointed Queen but her heart  was as cold as ice and she became ruthless. She then took her army and went to the woods to hunt for the Wizard. Now the Wizard knew of this and set a trap for her to get a hold of her immense famous strength, and she fell in a trap the wizard had set,a hole and it was too deep FOR her soldiers who tried to search and helped but it was pointless and days turned to a week,a week to weeks ,to months and eventually a year passed ,the people of Zebudan were saddened by these news.

Whilst the wizard had took a hold of her he cast a spell on and turned her into a possessed monster into eternal damnation under the sea. He a headpiece on her to lure the men to their deaths. Using her wonderful voice she sang to attract and hypnotize, them alongside her crown with the golden ball that shown from seashores and boats, and her this spell will last eternally. This is how the people of Zebudan lost their Queen and strongest warrior ever to live.

My Final Piece (Cold Enamel and glass beads)

Final piece from cold enamel and copper plates and glass beads of various colour

cut out templates

designing the neck piece of cold enamel and beads

My inspiration of colour, was highly influenced by the designers I chose looking at their collections and the bright, beautiful, colourful pieces. So I thought as much as I don't have surety of how i would go on about the design and colour technique I'd go for.I experimented with perspex that I ball burred into and gave a nice rough texture and apply acrylic paint.I then moved to cold enamel cause I had initially started with kiln fired enamel which needed experience but was a fun experience. My final piece has glass beads that are colourful and same colour skim as my cold enameled leafs different moods of green and shades.Initially this project was a learning curve for me that sometimes you need to try lots of different stuff and see what will work and new techniques you develop, just by playing around.

Cold enamel

cold enamel in copper plate

cold enamel on copper

I used cold enamelling after I had explored with kiln fired enamel.I found it was more convenient also easier and more neat since you are in control unlike kiln fired enamel that needs experience.

white perspex burred out and hand painted in acrylic

I experimented on perspex plastic as another interesting  way of  adding colour and I liked and thought the idea worked although at first I wasn't sure of it but I stuck a piece of printed flower on the back traced then burred into it,I then painted to see how it looked with the ball burred texture I found interesting.I plan to explore more and ball burr in deeper and play with colour. to use other shapes as well and try blend the paint more neatly.
